So the loquat tree is laden down with tons of ripe orangey fruit. Yum! Sparky the grey squirrel and Little Monkey the dog both love this time of year. Mr Spaghetti Legs eats a few, but does not seem obsessed with them.
Unfortunately, LM does over do it all. Initially, she has to gorge herself on the fruit, often starting way before they are ripe, with green ones. Then she eats any nice ripe ones that have fallen on the ground. After that, she leaps high in the air and plucks the fruit from the branches.
Usually, this is self-limiting. Eat too much fruit, get a sore tummy, stop eating fruit. But periodically throughout loquat season, LM has to repeat the whole process of over indulgence.
This results in the midnight loquat run. That is – scratching at the door to be let out – at midnight, 2 am, 5 am etc. Because, what goes in has gotta come out – apparently at these unearthly hours!!
I don’t mind too much, as it is lovely wandering round the garden in the dead of night surrounded by silence, often with amazing stars to look at, or a welcoming cool breeze after the heat of the day.
But really, I do need my beauty sleep!!
