I Live Here Too

Table Mountain - Cape Town

Table Mountain – Cape Town

It is more or less obligatory to take photos of Table Mountain as you approach the city of Cape Town from the airport.

This is the best photo I shot on Sunday, before my camera battery went dead, taken through the car window, while driving 100 kph down the freeway.

No! I wasn’t driving!

Table Mountain Fun Facts

Elevation     1084.6 metres (3558 feet)

Geology       Sandstone rock

Age               Silurian/Ordovician period (485.4 to 419.2 million years ago)

First Ascent  Antonio de Saldanha in 1503

Don’t worry; there’s a cable car now and restaurants at the top, for the modern day adventurer.

I would love to visit! Thankfully, many places in the States are also all about this sort of thing. Not here, though. We are mountain-less. We have to content ourselves with drinking at the top of skyscrapers.

Haha – Google will give you lots of lovely Mountain piccies 🙂 And I can’t take much credit for the photo – I just point and click! 🙂

Thanks 🙂 Table – because it is so flat and looks like a giant table. On cloudy days there can be thick white cloud hovering on top – which is said to be the Table cloth 🙂

They usually shoot the mountain from Bloubergstrand – so it would look reversed to this. You can walk up the mountain too 🙂
