Portrait of a Dog #9

Little Monkey

Little Monkey

I Love you Mum!

Little Monkey after her bath – eagerly expectant of a treat!

post script: Disclaimer! For all those (one) of you who notice that the choke chain is on incorrectly:- It was placed round her neck correctly, but she leapt in the air and jumped around like an Idiot, till it had moved to the other side. I only ever use this old choke chain for her bath, while her usual soft collar is washed and drying on the line with her lead. She has a lovely red material collar which you will notice in all her photos.

Hi Emma πŸ™‚ I have visited your blog, and re-blogged a post, so hope that might make a little difference. Your photos and cards are a great idea. Keep up the good work, Scifi πŸ™‚

She does have a gentle soul, but sadly was not socialised before I got her, so does freak out when other dogs get too close for comfort!
The grey creeps up on you! Although she did start with a teeny bit years ago. πŸ™‚

That’s how my Brutis was. I couldn’t really take him anywhere. But, it made more sense to me to protect him from his unease than to get rid of him. I know someone who did just that with her pupβ€”and stupidly felt the need to tell me about it. It broke my heart. It had never occurred to me to disown Brutis because he wasn’t easy. Anyway, I think you must feel the same way. We all have our issues, even our babies, and we protect them and help them deal and make our lives work with themβ€”and it’s a joy. In the end, what we gain is so much more than anything we lose. (I can’t take credit for that apparent pearl of wisdom. A commenter on my own blog wrote that to me this morning. I thought it PERFECT.)

I heartily agree with the saying – “You don’t get the dog you want, you get the dog you need!” And I purposefully pick the more difficult dogs (that I think I can handle) from the rescue centres. You have to put in a great deal of effort, but the goal is ultimately for your dog to be the most balanced it can be πŸ™‚ I am sure Brutis had a wonderful life with you, and you with him πŸ™‚

Great photo…of a beautiful face. Honestly…didn’t notice the collar I was fixed on her expression. πŸ™‚

Thank you for that πŸ™‚ LM is my most expressive dog πŸ™‚
I thought most people would not notice the choke chain – but there is always one, who will give me a long lecture – with references and links – to point out my error! I wanted to forestall that πŸ™‚

Yes…very expressive. And yes…there is always at least one. Links are like choker chains…sometimes. πŸ™‚

haha The good thing about LM – is that once the bath is over, and she has had a treat or two, and run round the garden like a mad thing – she totally forgets she ever had a bath in the first place πŸ™‚

I bath her in the garden with a very large bucket of warm water. She’s not difficult to wash, but she really doesn’t like it – so lots of treats after πŸ™‚

Rivers – no problem! I think it is the hose more than anything – from being a rescue dog in a centre maybe? Most of my adopted dogs did not like the hose or the pool.

She is so adorable! Cuddling with a warm, clean, nice smelling (after she’s dry!) Pooch is the bestest!

Yes πŸ™‚ She is So soft and smells so good after her bi-annual bath! But to be honest, she normally doesn’t smell bad – even when wet in the rain. Only when she rolls in pooh! Blegh!

Thanks πŸ™‚ I was surprised that the camera caught a sort of glitter to her damp fur. The hair on her head and ears is sable, and soooo soft πŸ™‚

Aahhh. She looks so trusting. I don’t know anything about collars etc. But my son’s dog is funny. If they take off his collar, he wants it put back on. I mean he really does want it back on. lol I’ve seen him “tell” them to put it back on. πŸ™‚

Yes I do wonder if dogs associate the collar with belonging or something πŸ™‚ LM wears her collar and dog tags all the time, SL only when we go out – as he gets his dew claw caught in the tags!
LM is my “least likely to bite” dog πŸ™‚ so yeah, trusting and harmless, if unsocialised and anxious! πŸ™‚
