Forty Degrees
Too hot to think
Only want to drink
Ice-water
Too hot all day
Nothing left to say
Like I oughta
Meh! You can write the rest of the poem yourselves! Human body temperature is 37C. Anything above that and your brain ceases to function! It is 40C today.
Fires are raging uncontrolled across much of the Cape Peninsular. People have had to evacuate homes. And while it is usual to have mountain fires at this time of year, and even necessary for the propagation of certain plants, such as protea, we don’t usually get them down among the houses. It is desperately dry, and very hot, with a slight breeze.
You hear the helicopters flying endlessly, tirelessly, taking one massive “bucket” load of water after another, trying to quench the flames. They fly until the last possible moment at night, and begin again at first light. They hope that they will put the fire out today. Otherwise, a bit of rain is forecast for tomorrow. You can read a bit about it here if you like Cape Town fires rage through the night.
Meanwhile, for those of us out of harm’s way, we can enjoy the pretty skies of yellow light as the sun filters through all that smoke. This untouched photo is of a sunrise a few years ago, at just such a time of fires on the mountains as we have now.

My brain ceases to function long before 37 C I am afraid. 😉 Your temperatures are insane. Try to keep cool. 🙂

Forty degrees!
I’m weak in the knees,
Spring gave us a treat
With holding off on the sleet
What a difference a letter makes
An F or C is all it takes
To write a poem back to Scifi
And different results apply!
😃😀😁

Are your complaining again about too warm days? Want to trade? I have snow hahah 🙂 Actually I’m also looking forward to hating the heat :))) Love the photo! Gorgeous sunset ❤ Have a great day!

Yes, sorry I am complaining again! There is warm – and then there is 42C – which is what it ended up being yesterday! Far too hot – the hottest it has been here in 100 years!
On the plus side, it doesn’t really get cold here in winter! 🙂

Considering that we’ll have heavy snowfalls again starting tomorrow, sounds pretty good to me. I think I’ll pack my stuff and move there haha 🙂

Hi Em 🙂 Thanks for your comment. We are safe here, though the air is full of the smell of smoke. A lot cooler today, the mountain top is in cloud, and I think they are winning with the fires. 🙂

Don’t worry Mr Baloney Head, Little Monkey and Mr Spaghetti Legs checked that the rescue organisations that they came from were safe – because they are in those areas. But all the animals are fine 🙂

Hope you get some rain to drown those fires.

I wish. But the fires should be self-limiting – just trying to save property now.

Too hot for me. At the moment, the weather is changeable but later in the year we will be sweltering in the boat as we are basically living in a tin can (beans anyone?)!

Too hot for me too! Ah – need a breeze to make the heat bearable on your boat?

We can open the bow and helm doors for a through breeze, and have a sky light in the kitchen plus all windows have openings. NIghts are probably the worst in the summer.

We dot the same here with all the doors and windows to try to create a through breeze. 🙂

Truly sorry to feel your scorcher heat and raging forest fires! Stay safe and may Cape Town cool off and hopefully have some rain😥
We are having 38C temps. No rain and thankfully no forests to burn☺
Take care☺

Is it humid where you are? I must say it is not usually this hot here – and it actually reached 42C! Phew!
Yes, I hope the fires die down by tomorrow.

I would love to see a beautiful sky like the one in your beautiful photo, but I didn’t like the fact the it hit 40 degrees and caused fires on the mountains 😦 Hope everything is back to normal soon! 😉

The fires are not caused from the extreme heat, tho that doesn’t help once they are going. Hit 42C just now! But cooler tomorrow! 🙂

Sorry about all of the excessive heat!
It’s been way below the norm (and freezing) temperature wise here in Illinois for the last 3 weeks. And today we have nasty freezing rain! We humans need to do better with regard to green energy and the environment!

I know! It doesn’t help to realise that the Earth’s extreme temperatures are caused by us humans.

Not from my house, but from the local shops yes, and anywhere you can see that part of the mountains.

The fire ha spread down the mountains towards some towns. Firefighters are trying to stop it at the roads there.

It’s spectacular view !!!!!!!!! Oh,I wish I could see it live 🙂 Is the color like that because of mountain fire ?
I can understand, heat makes my brain too much racing around in restlessness and I can’t think about writing one word !

The air gets filled with smoke/dust particles, so the sky is then more yellow when the sun shines through it. Particularly noticeable sunrise and sunset 🙂

Freaking hell. That is hot! And just this morning in JHB, I was thinking winter is on its way. It’s terrible about the fires and I hope that they can put it out today. Glad you are safe.

Thanks 🙂 I think there are 3 main areas of concern, but hopefully they will win today.
40C is too hot here – because of the humidity.

Beautiful photo! I love the colours. The fires, however look particularly bad this year.. Hope you get rain soon to cool down!

Thank you 🙂 Yes, I don’t remember the fires going right over the mountains from one side to the other like that. Hopefully today is the last hot day of summer!! 🙂
