When my daughter DD was a youngster, she won a soft hand made toy rabbit in a school raffle. Named Mimsy, she has lived in my daughter’s room ever since the time she was brought home.
Now, many years later, this little rabbit was sorely in need of a wash.
The body and clothes dried quite quickly, but the batting took forever to dry, even in the hot SA sunshine.
Spotless and ironed.
All the clothes too.
Now the long process of stuffing Mimsy back to life begins.
Just ready for the wardrobe.
Finally, Mimsy resplendent, back on the bed where she belongs.
And that’s how Mimsy got a makeover!
You’re far more patient and thorough than me! Stuffed animals that need to be cleaned just get tossed in the washer and dryer around here.

Agh Nooo – This was a hand made one of a kind! It wouldn’t have survived the washing machine! 🙂

And this is probably why I don’t have many nice things…

It did take a long time to get Mimsy sparkly white, but as you say, a satisfying end result 🙂

The strangest thing about a cleaning like that is how different it smells afterward.

She did smell a bit fresher, an certainly looked whiter 🙂

What do your neighbors think when they drive by and look at your clothes line?!

Thank you 🙂
I’m sure they’d think I’d reached my second childhood – if they could have seen the washing line! But we all have them in the back gardens, out of view of the street 🙂

Cant believe you ironed her too XD
I know this sounds kinda silly but I never thought of plushies and clothing…Leaves all sorts of ideas to crafters who make their own toys.

She was really wrinkly after all the scrubbing! Wouldn’t have looked the same if I hadn’t ironed her! 🙂

I was not expecting such a calm, nice post. I expected Mimsy in the emergency ‘sewing room’ ward after an encounter with LM. Pleasantly surprised! M looks great!

Hahaha, what I read was that she made it and won some prize for it in school. There you go… 😉

No worries 🙂 A teacher made it in evening class for fun, and donated it to the school for a raffle 🙂

Very cute post, and very cute Mimsy. You worked hard to do a makeover on Mimsy, you are an excellent parent. Nice job.

Soooooooo cuuuuuteeeeee…… reading this was so much fun, the process must have been rigorous as it seems but looking at Mimsy’s makeover surely took the pain away 😀 Loved Mimsy and it’s pretty clothes ❤ ❤ ❤

It was a lot more work than I anticipated, to get Mimsy really white again. And the stuffing just wouldn’t dry!! But like you say, worth it to see her looking brand new again 🙂

How did you wash the stuffing ?? I must say making Mimsy spotless and milky would have been an insurmountable task for me 😀

I washed the stuffing in a large bucket with OMO washing powder, and some bleach! Lots of rinsing – and then days and days of drying in the sunshine! 🙂

Hmmmm 😀 With the summer we are having, I am thinking to try this on my ‘Tigger’ 😀

haha Go for it! And good luck. My only tip is – make sure everything is thoroughly dry before putting Tigger back together 🙂

Thank you so much Sci 🙂 I always got scary to open it up with the worry, I may not be able to put it back again the same way but now I feel confident 😀

It will be fine! If Tigger is quite large, like Mimsy, then I suggest you keep the stuffing for the head and body separate from the arms and legs (like I did) so you know how much should go where! 🙂

Hmmmm… I can try that 😀 He has a looong long tail, that one will be tricky 😀 😀

You could leave the stuffing in his tail and see if it dries like that 🙂

P.S Actually I know it is a rabbit but I prefer it to be a nice “mouse” 😉

Yep – no problem 🙂 Must be a Lop-Eared Mouse! 😉

I lurrrrve Mimsy….just like my inanimate furball Garfield. It is great you can remove cottony stuffing you refer to as “batting” (new word for me LOL!)….a mouse too…Garfield’s “friend”…Good job Sci! Well done!

It took me quite a while to get Mimsy clean! I tried first without removing the stuffing, but it wasn’t working. I needed to bleach the body to get her really white again. But she looks fine again in the end 🙂
