Sunday Musings #23

You are today where your thoughts have brought you. You will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.

– James Allen

Many people define themselves by what they do; others by what they think. How do you define yourself?

This quote begs the question, are you your thoughts?

And on the subject of thoughts I wonder what happened to some excellent bloggers I follow? MIA

I am surely not my thoughts. I am my actions. I think lots of things I would not share with others. However, folks do see what I do.

To me, thoughts come before my actions 😉 I’m a type of person who think a lot and most of the time I need my thoughts to inspire me to take actions 🙂 Very good question Sci!!! ❤

What colinandray wrote is true; “I am my thoughts and my actions.” We must be careful in saying this, though, as merely calling them “my thoughts” or “my actions” tends to reinforce the notion of a separate controller. The controller is the controlled. Additionally, for most people, it is “reactions,” not “actions” that are involved; actions occur by way of deep insight, which (unfortunately) do not commonly occur for most.

How do I define myself? I don’t. 🙂 You can’t define what exists beyond words, beyond the field of the known. (Ironically, the very going beyond “knowledge” and the “known,” with all of its attempt at security and order… is the highest realm of security and order.)

Isn’t this a lot like: “what you think, you become” and other quotes about how you can change your life by changing the way you look at things? For me I hope I have healthy mindset who will guide me in the right direction in all aspects of life. And if something is “off” with my thinking I have to adress that in order to make some changes, in my behavior or the way I think 🙂 Maybe 😀

Thoughts and actions. They are not locked together. Maturity, culture and many other factors filter the output. Some of us are better at filtering the darker stuff. That’s why we write fiction. Can’t keep it all inside all the time.

My thoughts motivate me to strive ahead and hence the actions that dictate it. There is another worthy quote I like, “I think, therefore I am” but I have forgotten who said this ha ha.
I have also missed the voice of LadySighs. May she and others return soon 😀

Yes, there can be no action without thought first. I could go into that in depth too! And Descartes said that often quoted saying 🙂
      I hope LS returns soon!

Interesting question! Without thinking it through too deeply (because I should be doing other stuff right now!) ………. I am my thoughts and my actions. My thoughts alone may well define me to me, but my thoughts alone do not define me to others …….. that needs actions. 🙂
