Walk the Line

Walk the Line

Men walking the right of way at the station. Or are they?

Actually they are spraying weed killer, but they have to walk the line to do it, right?

There are two stations in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Westgate is on one side of town. It is bigger, with more trains running through it, a ticket office, toilets and cafe.

This is Wakefield Kirkgate. It has no facilities at all.

But the trains ran on time and I got myself to Nottingham in ninety minutes. It only cost 7 pounds 40 pence, since my daughter Pix had purchased my ticket online months before, thus saving me 14 pounds!

I love travelling by train in England. It is the most civilised form of transport. Once settled on board I can sit back and enjoy the ride and the beautiful countryside. After half an hour or so, I eat my packed lunch and drink my bottled water. Happy.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you’re mine, I walk the line
I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I’ll admit that I’m a fool for you
    Because you’re mine, I walk the line….🎡 🎸🎡

haha Yes πŸ™‚ You see I planned well in advance for my trip – even before I left SA! If by “food” you mean chocolate, why yes I did spend my savings on that! πŸ˜‰

Oh, train rides in small/small-ish countries are great. I loved traveling in Japan on the train – fast (yay, shinkansen/bullet train!), clean, and easy, even for someone like me whose knowledge of Japanese does not extend much beyond the one word of it I used in this comment. I took a couple train rides while I was in England and Ireland, and I would definitely do it again in both places. And now, I want to go back on vacation.

I always wanted to do a train ride in the country and yours sound lovely and peaceful. I had planned to go with my ex boyfriend then to ride the train in Taiwan from one end to the other end of Taiwan. He told me we would not get off the train but just spend a week on the train. Unfortunately we broke up ;-(
Maybe I still will get to do it one fine dayπŸ˜‰
Much appreciate you reminding me by this post of the dream I once had. Good to have nice dreams and memories.

I think you should take a long train trip when you retire! πŸ™‚ In UK seniors get cheaper train tickets too, so maybe that works in other countries? πŸ™‚
