And a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Actually, a  Pigeon in a Willow Tree, Cape Town.

But close enough!

Well, what do you expect from the ‘Other Down Under’ in mid-summer?

Of course, I am referring to the Christmas carol; the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Here are Twelve Interesting Things You Might Not Know about the song and you can listen to it Here.

And because it’s not called the Silly Season for nothing, why not listen to this hilarious version sung by animals?

post script: I see from my Silly Season link that those of you in the Northern Hemisphere may not know what I am talking about, as it means something different to you. But in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, the Silly Season refers to the Christmas / New Year period. Why? Have you ever tried to celebrate a traditional Christmas in searing temperatures?

The closest my wife and I came to celebrating Christmas and New Year’s in high heat was the one year we were in Memphis Tennessee during that period. That being said we did have an ice storm shortly afterwards…but before and on Christmas the temperature was close to 80 degrees F…quite warm for people who had and have lived the rest of their lives in Pennsylvania. I can’t imagine what it is like to be flat-out hot every day during the Holidays. I think we have been quite “programmed” to expect cold weather as a given within our Christmas experiences.

There seem to be more warm winters now up North than there used to be; I remember very cold Christmases with lots of snow in the north of UK, when I was a kid.
If you grow up in a hot country I guess you are more used to it, but if you move from a cold country, it never seems right to be warm at Christmas- as you found out in Tennessee that year. 🙂

You are the only one to comment on that!
I don’t know what my new neighbours have done to this poor willow tree, that has been flourishing for years. I see that most of it looks dead, though there is some new growth on part of it. 🙂

I can understand that. As kids, we loved it when it snowed in the UK, but older people hated it, because the pavements were treacherous, and if they fell they could break bones.

Oh they try all sorts! The moment Christmas is over, they get on with school things (new year starts in January here). Then it is straight into Valentine’s Day etc etc

To me…Christmas in searing heat is not Christmassy. Somehow the Dickens feel of the cold and that bowl of soup adds to the yuletide season. 😉
That is why I miss winter!
Lovely photo of the bird perched atop a willow tree👍👏👏 well done 🙂

Thank you very much GH 🙂
I totally agree – I need to feel that icy cold to get into the Christmas spirit. I feel my most Christmassy in July here! 🙂

What a cute silly video. One wonders what the pets think of all the fru fru. It gets cold here but rarely see a white Christmas. Some years in the 80’s. But no, can’t imagine serving lemonade on Christmas. Hot Rum Punch sounds better. 🙂

I laugh at this video; they’ve added the voices so well 🙂
A glass full off ice cubes and topped up with chilled white wine works very well too 🙂

Just when you think all the funny videos have been made, somebody comes up with a new one. 🙂 Of course that one might be years old and just new to me. lol
