I’ll Still be Home on Christmas Day

I left home when I was 18, but still went home every Christmas.

I left England when I was 21. In the following years, before my parents both died, I was only “Home on Christmas Day” three times.

Though I made my own family Christmases here in South Africa, it is just not the same, celebrating Christmas in a very hot country, in the middle of summer.

Christmas will always feel a little sad to me.

So here is Elvis to sing it like it is.

Wishing those of you who celebrate it;

Merry Christmas;

and those of you who do not;

Happy Holidays.

And sparing a thought for those who are lonely or sad at this time of year and sending you a Sunbeam!

post script: In the spirit of re-using last year’s Christmas wrapping paper, I am re-cycling last year’s Christmas post; because you can’t say it any better than Elvis. This is the first post I have ever recycled. I think I shall do this every Christmas, and start a new tradition.

    Like ladysighs, I too was blocked — when I clicked on the clip, it said “This video contains content from SME [Sony Music Entertainment?], who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.” So much for SME’s Christmas spirit!
    Anyway, Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.

      Sorry about that. Who can fathom the vagaries of youtube!
      It is just Elvis Presley singing “I’ll be home on Christmas day” which you should be able to find on youtube in your country.
      Thanks for trying, and Merry Christmas to you too 🙂

    Nice song. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I know how you feel about Christmas the heat. Why don’t you plan a trip somewhere cold for Christmas one year?

      Thank you 🙂 Yes, that’s an idea; it just usually happens that I travel to Europe in their summer.
      Merry Christmas to you and your family 🙂

    You should write either a “Wizard of Oz” or an “It’s a Wonderful Life” post. Then you could recycle them at Christmas indefinitely. Anyway, very Merry Christmas to you. 🙂

    Merry Christmas!
    Nothing wrong with a bit of recycling. Follows come and go and may not have seen the original.

    Dear Scifi, the time is to short to organize a little Britain for you 😉
    So my very little, but special christmas-gift for you is this:

    I hope it makes you smile a little bit.
    Merry Christmas, Scifi

      Wow! This is marvellous! Thank you so much, Ulli, for finding it. I used to live in Liverpool when the Beatles first came to fame! So this brought back a lot of memories. 🙂
      Merry Christmas to you and yours too 🙂

      I have checked all my comments and spam and cannot find a previous comment, so I am very happy that you took the trouble to come back and comment again!
      Thank you – and Merry Christmas 🙂

    This is the first time I have seen your recycled post, it would make a nice tradition each year.
    Merry Christmas even in your summer heat. It will be 67 degrees here in Arkansas on Christmas Day, which is very unusual. Certainly does not feel like Christmas here either.

        Hated those storms going through here last night. We had one death in our state. Mississippi and East had terrible tornadoes and several deaths. Ruined a lot of people’s Christmas.

      Thank you Khloe 🙂 But don’t worry, I’m OK. It’s just that I know there are many sad and lonely people out there, and I just wanted to address that too.

    Some of us do a lot of pretending during this month. I even had to pretend to hear Elvis because it was blocked to me. lol
    WordPress is our pretend home now. And hope I will still be here to read your recycled greeting next year. 🙂

      Oh No! Sorry Elvis did not play. I thought that blocking thing was only for those if us outside the USA!
      Yes, Here’s to another year of blogging. Let’s hope we’re all still here next year! 🙂

    Merry Christmas, to you and your family. Christmas always has a bitter sweet feeling for me. I think it is because we stop our daily routine reflect on relationships, family, quality of life. It is a very emotional time when memories of bad and happy events dwell in your head until the panic of a new year and getting back to the routine kicks in.
