Arrival

Pretty cool hey!

I captured my daughter’s plane taxiing into its parking bay last year and realised afterwards that the Cape Town International writing, printed on the window, lined up beautifully.

Sometimes you just get the perfect shot.

Though sometimes it may take a 100 clicks!

Nice – though this American is wondering if just anyone can still go right up to the planes in South Africa. We’re all stuck waiting in common areas, and only ticketed passengers can get right up to the planes these days.

There was the glass window! So no-one can actually board or approach a plane without going thro pretty stringent security checks and a valid boarding pass.
But yes, at Arrivals, you can see the planes land and often watch the passengers disembark and walk above you on a glass-panelled walkway. They then go thro passport control, customs and baggage claim out of sight, before you get to actually greet them. πŸ™‚

Oh, this is very cool! It’s very much a “just wait around and do nothing” at most airports here. Even if you don’t actually get to greet people immediately, it’s good to know they have arrived (even if you then can get super worried when they take forever at customs. I would immediately begin creating scenarios in my head where whoever I was there to meet had been picked up (wrongfully, of course) for smuggling of exotic animals or drugs or whatever. In related news, perhaps I should be thankful for our lack of windows!

It is nice to see your ‘arrivee’ and know they are fine. And SA’s waltz thro all the checks, but my UK friend took forever – stuck in a long queue of “foreigners” at passport control. haha
