While those of you in the Northern hemisphere pull on another winter woolly, shovel snow and dream of summer sunshine, those of us here in the Southern hemisphere, in the Other Down Under in South Africa, take to the beaches for a little relief from the relentless heat. There is usually a strong off-shore breeze to cool you down, and of course you could always swim; though the water is icy cold.
What I like about here are the restful views of distant horizons, the long white beaches to walk on and the crashing waves on the rocks as the tide turns.
Yeahhhhhhhh the sea !

The Cape is surrounded by ocean and many beautiful beaches: we are very lucky. 🙂

I think so. It must be a beautiful place to be at this time of the year in particular. 🙂

We have the oceans, forests and mountains, so yep, plenty of Nature 🙂 But unless you love the heat, rather visit in March say (Autumn). 🙂

I’m not a huge fan of very hot weather. Spring or Autumn for me, I think. 🙂

You could even come to Cape Town in winter as it rarely gets below 10C. 🙂

That’s really not too bad at all. It must be a comfortable climate to live in except for the very hottest part of the summer.

It is 🙂 You might not follow football, but they had the world cup here in SA several years ago – in the middle of our winter. 🙂

I don’t watch sports much, but I do follow big international competitions like the Olympics or the World Cup if I have the time. I remember the vuvuzelas. 🙂

Ah, I love anything about the ocean. Thanks for this wonderful photo. I have not been to the ocean for years, but my favorite area is the Pacific Ocean along the U.S. Western coast. I am going to the Gulf coast this coming May or June or eat my hat. lol

Beautiful beach!
Ok, is the water that cold because of your southern, ice neighbor? I guess I’d figure the water to be nice enough to swim in. . What a quandary. . Too hot outta water, too cold in!

I think it’s the southern ocean currents, and water from the antarctic. You could have a quick swim 🙂

I used to love walking along the cliff tops in Bournemouth, coming down the path (didn’t use the cliff railway) and then walking across a suspension bridge overlooking the gardens (used to sway a bit especially if there were a lot of people on it!), and then along the beach. Quite a distance, but I was a lot younger (and fitter) then!

Sounds like a lovely walk 🙂 We used to go to Bridlington for our summer hols. It was lovely to walk along the beach at night towards Flamborough 🙂
