Check Your Firearm Here

Firearm 1

Firearm 1

Sign seen at Cape Town airport.

No, seriously.

Like, don’t take your gun on the plane, Dude!

Firearm 2

Firearm 2

I am just wondering why anyone would think it necessary to take their gun with them to the airport in the first place.

And who owns one anyway?

post script: I’d be interested to know if anyone else has this sign at their airport?

My worry with so many gun owners, is that there are bound to be irresponsible ones among them.
And yes to that gun fascination some of them have.

Since I’m not a gun owner, signs like that would also make me wonder why people would carry a gun to the airport. Since they legalized weed in Colorado, there are similar drop-off spots for bud, which again makes me wonder why anyone would bring their weed to the airport. But, the weed signs wouldn’t bother me as much as the gun signs. In fact, I might hang around such areas, looking to get a good price or find some leftover bud. (Just kidding.) (Or am I?) πŸ™‚

Weed signs! That is great πŸ™‚
Actually, I have never seen any activity around the “Firearm check in”. So I’m guessing most people do Not bring their guns with them to the airport.

I’ve read that some people have brought their weed to the airport (giving potheads everywhere a bad name). Then the police destroy it. Considering how expensive it is and how hard it is for me to access, I consider that a damn shame. πŸ™‚

Signs like that are a little scary. The fact that the person “next to me” could be carrying a firearm is scary. The fact the people get pissed off and behave irrationally simply compounds my concern. I saw that sign and shuddered. Have we made no progress since the days of the American “Wild West”?

I have never seen a civilian carrying a gun in public here – I’m pretty sure it’s illegal. I just thought it was an unusual sign, but glad to know our country is not alone in this Airport sign.

Interesting to learn a new thing. Thanks for the share. A lot of controversy on guns. I prefer to let the authorities carry guns. Hard to be own vigilante is my view. Sigh!

Cannot remember seeing a sign like this at any airport. I have to chime in with Midwestern Plant Girl – my husband has several guns, mostly for hunting. I believe you should be able to protect yourself. Some states in the U.S. are doing open carry on guns now, has to do with all the shootings at malls, on the street, etc. This world is getting pretty awful and the good guys should be able to protect themselves.

That is way too long, and I understand the extra need to protect yourself when out in the country.
Still, my dogs are my main protection and deterrent πŸ™‚

We had a small dog, who was a guard dog, but she disappeared and we never found her. Have to worry about coyotes killing your dogs out here, even with the fence all around. They dig under and get in your yards. Just can’t take losing another dog, too sad.

Amen to that one. We have to wait for the county police. Good people with guns do not kill, bad people with guns kill. If all these bad people thought we had no guns and were defenseless they would rob and kill more. This world is getting worse each day and we have to protect ourselves.

Well. .. you knew I would chime in here! Maybe I’ll be your troll today πŸ‘Ή
Maybe it’s because I’m American and we like our rights and of course our guns (2nd amendment allows me to own a gun).
I know I don’t live in a war zone, but knowing that I can protect myself makes me feel more comfortable.
The bad people will be able to get guns whether they are legal or not. Might as well even the playing field and let good people have them also.
Yes, BTW! We do have these at our airports.

haha Thanks for chiming in πŸ™‚
I think many more people own guns in USA than in SA, but I’m still not sure of the reasons for this. Unless you carry it on you at all times, I can’t see it being much use in protecting you (say locked in your safe).
My main point was – why bring your gun to the airport? Do you really need it for the short drive to and from home?
But I am very happy that SA is not alone in this odd little Airport sign! πŸ™‚
