Pansies are purple!
And orange, yellow or red
Why are Violets blue?
This pansy is looking a little battered after being watered. But hey, water is life!
And from my extensive research (google – one minute) I found out that it is rare to get a truly blue flower, which is why botanist call a flower blue, when it is merely slightly less purple!
post script:Β The Nursery rhyme or poem, Roses are red, reads:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
And so are you
And as you can see, it is much easier to find a rhyme to “blue” than it is to “slightly less purple”!

Maybe violets are blue because someone was slightly colorblind? Or just a guy who can’t be bothered to differentiate between the two colors?

haha Yep, and because Blue, in flowers, is harder to get, so let’s call it Blue and make some money! π

Seriously. I also wonder when people buy the obviously dyed blue carnations, what they’re thinking. I hope it’s not “Ooh, blue carnations! I never knew they grew this way!,” but I suspect those are the thoughts that are from the smarter people buying them.
