Hello Beautiful!

Flower 2

Flower 2

Where have you been all my life?

This bulb was already in the garden when we moved into the house, decades ago. It must be way down in the ground by now. Certainly there was no prior warning to its imminent arrival: no tell-tale leaves for example. Suddenly one day, it was just there.

What is it, you ask?

Trusty google reveals this lovely flowering bulb to be Nerine Bowdenii.

These photos were taken using the Auto Aperture feature. Once again, it was windy, so the flower kept bobbing around at unexpected times. I had to try to time my snaps.

post script: And yes, someone actually said those opening lines to me once, when I was a teenager.

I know! Boys are so cheesy!

I was surprised when I read your post since Nerine Bowdenii would be fairly convincing as a person’s name. It’s like finding out a particular type of flower is called a Joe Smith or a Mary Thompson.

Nice to get such a beautiful surprise when this lovely flower pops out of the ground. I think most of us have gotten the line – “Where have you been all of my life” – from silly boys and men. lol

I had no idea they did do that! 🙂
As to the suitor – he later told me that actually I wasn’t beautiful, which was the truth – but who wants to hear that! 😀 Like I said – Boys!

There’s some ‘extra cheese’ for you!
We have lilies like that here, we call them surprise lilies, as they bloom wo leaves in spring, then the leaves grow after the flower disappears. Surprise! 🎉

      haha Sweet. 🙂
I don’t know if this lily did have leaves after the flower, because my husband mows anything in his path! I am amazed the flower even made it! 🙂

I’m impressed, because if it is like our Surprise Lilies, I have been absolutely unable to get them to grow, despite several attempts. Perhaps I just need someone to mow them down. Maybe I’ve been coddling them too much.
