Sunday Musings #52

Dogs have masters. Cats have staff.

– Anon

Anyone who has ever had any interaction with dogs and cats will recognise the truth in this.

So you think that is why I have dogs and not cats? Because I like to be the boss?

Possibly; but we’ll never know.

I’ll never have cats because I am highly allergic to them!

That’s not to say I didn’t grow up with cats (and dogs and rabbits and guinea pigs and ferrets etc etc) because I did. (Older sister mad about animals.)

I also spent most of my childhood gasping for air, with one asthma attack after another.

post script: This disproves the theory that kids are more prone to allergies if they don’t grow up with all sorts of animals.

I love both cats and dogs, but there’s no doubt that they’re different in the way they see people. Having said that, my cat when I was a boy — Pippin — seemed to think he was a dog. He used to do typical doggy things, like with me for walks around the garden.

My kids loved snails. We once lived in a very hot dry place for a year, (no snails) and when we returned to CT the first thing they did was run out into the garden and look for snails.
I found my girls standing on the stoep happily watching a tiny snail on each and every fingertip! πŸ™‚

haha It is surprising how quickly dogs learn names – their own and the others. Even LM did – and she’s not too bright!
I think it is to do with making sure you get Your food when your name is called! πŸ™‚

This is true about dogs and cats. It’s strange about the allergy, I thought if you were allergic to one furry animal, you were to all of them as well.

And you have disproved the cat allergy theory.πŸ‘πŸ‘Like you, I agree that it is not true if a child is exposed to allergens, it can be overcome. Case by case really! I am glad you stuck to woofies! Cat fur is so much finer and is an asthmatics nightmare if not careful.

Exactly – it is each individual person.
Apparently it is the dander (dead skin particles) that cause the allergies, not so much the actual fur. Cats make this worse by grooming themselves more than dogs, and then rubbing themselves on you! Spreading the love (and allergens) around! πŸ˜€
