We were fortunate enough to be visiting the owl aviaries at the World of Birds in Hout Bay, when their keeper came round to feed them
One particular owl called out to him and he hooted back in the same manner. They had quite a conversation, then the man held up some chicken gizzard on one side of the netting, and the owl swooped down for his treat.
He really was the Bird Feeder!

post script: For those of you who read my post, “Baby“, yesterday, the answer is Guinea Pig.
I’ve never seen one of this uniform grey colour before, and it stumped most of you too. As of going to press; Garfield Hugs is the only one who got it right. Well Done: virtual pellets on their way to you!
None of you were tricked into thinking it was a HAMSTER, despite my name!
Animals you thought it might be:-
GERBIL (3 votes), CHINCHILLA (2), DASSIE/ROCK RABBIT/HYRAX (2), and one vote for each of the rest; DEGUS, JERBOA, RABBIT, YETI and SASQUATCH! (Thank you Tom for those last two suggestions.)
Thank You to all who participated.
Birds of prey are so amazing! I recently went to a lady’s house because she is making my wedding cake and I was more mesmerised by the two Harrier Hawks and the Barn Owl she had in her garden than the cake design ha ha ha

haha Marvellous! But yeah, I’d also be looking at the birds! 🙂
And exciting! Wedding 🙂

haha It is mad leading up to a wedding.
A suggestion from my daughter who got married last year – on the day, take your watch off – and Enjoy it! 🙂 (Oh and a glass of champagne in the morning helps too!)

Thank you. I don’t wear a watch usually so that’s a good start. I went from Australia to the UK to sort it all out and book everything in 2 weeks. Now I’m back in Australia it all seems like a daydream! My family is all in the UK hence why I’m getting married there 😊

You did really well to sort it out so quickly. It took my daughter months to find the right venue. Hope you have a lovely wedding day 🙂

Thank you 😊 it was certainly a challenge and pretty exhausting especially with Jet Lag! You will have to post some photos of your daughters wedding. It sounds like a lot of effort and time went into it!

I don’t post people on my blog, but you can see the lovely old car here –
and the cravats I made for the groomsmen here –
Every wedding is special, but mostly your own! Enjoy 🙂

I don’t wear a watch either. I haven’t since I was 18.
I didn’t really care for the idea that time ruled…..but I am always punctual. Never late and maybe 10 minutes early. My clock is in my head. 🙂

I agree completely. I’m glad I’m not the only person who doesn’t want to be controlled by time.

Yes, I didn’t like the time controlling me.
Anything controlling…

Love owls! A guinea pig! I should have got that …

haha It just didn’t look like a Guinea Pig – uniform smooth grey! It fooled me too, except I knew it had to be one. 🙂

I sure hope that the treat wasn’t Baby!

Nooo – it was chicken gizzards!
There’d be an uproar if the Guinea pigs were fed to the Birds of Prey!
However, it is fair game on any mice or rats that get in the enclosures!

I couldn’t figure out what he was feeding the bird – I am glad you clarified (it had a distinct, finger-like quality to me).

What a wonderful owl!
Guinea Pig – so cute 🙂
Is it accepted by the dogs 😉
Greetings, Scifi and thank you for Baby,

Thank you Ulli 🙂
Sadly, I don’t own the baby Guinea Pig: I took the photo at the same place as this owl photo. 🙂
As you suspected, I can’t have any little pets while I have my dog Little Monkey around!

This is so cool….the feeder having a conversation with an owl and the owl eating off his hands! Nature up front as if like National Geographic 😃

haha Yes it really was! 🙂
And congratulations on being the only one to guess that Baby was a Guinea pig! 😀

I love owls. Especially the snow owl and the barn owl.
Sometimes it makes me nervous if they hang around the house for days. A old indian saying is someone is going to die…it happened a couple of times to me. One was my grandmother. And I am not really superstitious.

If I were him, I’d count my fingers carefully afterwards. 🙂

haha Too true! Which I suppose is why he fed the owl through the mesh, because you actually walked into the owl’s enclosure, with no mesh between you and the birds!

How brave! They’re beautiful birds, but I can’t help noticing that beak and those claws. 🙂

I’m sure you’d be OK, as you’re quite a bit bigger than a mouse – I think! Though I haven’t actually met you of course! 🙂

Well, I know what height I am, so it really depends on the size of the mouse. 🙂

Well, I started to say Guinea pig, but had never seen one that color, so I thought I was wrong.
My granddaughter has had several guinea pigs.
