Just because I live in Africa doesn’t mean it is all about Lions and Elephants, Rhino and Cape Buffalo!*
We also have Cape Turtle Doves (pigeons). Who doesn’t?
And they all need water for life.
I love that these little guys are playing around having bath time fun, in a fortuitous puddle of rain water, in a deserted parking lot: the local watering hole!
post script: A little pop quiz for you. Above * I have listed four of the Big Five game animals. What is the fifth?
Oooooo…..Leopard! I’ve always wanted to photograph one đ

They are super elusive! Seldom seen. đ

Can’t blame them! They are such magnificent creatures. Have you seen one while you have been living there?

I haven’t, but my friend was really lucky to see one on safari once. Most people never see them.

Turtle doves are getting rare in the UK đŚ

Sad – but they may become even rarer in USA, as they shoot them and eat them! – as Tom says. (https://tom8pie.wordpress.com/)

They look like our mourning doves. They actually hunt them around here… which is ludicrous.

Oh no. That’s horrid! Hardly a mouthful – if they eat them!

They eat them (what’s left after being shot, anyway)! When it’s hunting season for these, we hear shots all day long. I’m glad i’m a vegetarian! These doves are quite intelligent, monogamous, and are wonderful, beautiful, innocent creatures!

How awful! I kind of understand eating beef, the animal is big, but doves?
And I agree with you on being vegetarian.

I thought of one of the Big Cats too, either the Leopard or Cheetah.
Your picture reminds me of the ducks that were swimming in one of the potholes in the road on our way to the woods when we lived in Lincolnshire!.

Love to watch birds as they take their baths. Very nice photos. Would not have thought it was the leopard as some of the bloggers above mentioned.

Thank you đ
And yes, that’s why I left the African Leopard out of the five, as it is the one most of us forget!

“Cape Turtle Dove” – now that’s some fine branding right there.

Adorable doves! I love pigeons, one time, a pigeon led me to a Tibetan bell that I had dreamt about the night before; I was in a store, walked out and there was a pigeon standing looking at me, began to walk and looked back to see if I would follow, so I did, it led me across a boulevard (with street lights) and then walked to a store, stopped and looked at me, I went inside and looked around, much to my astonishment, the bell that I had dreamt of was for sale (of course I bought it and have it to this day).

That is an amazing story! đ How wonderful. But also, it wouldn’t have happened if you weren’t receptive to nature đ

So nice to see doves like that. Loved the angle you took this. As for the 5th…hmm…I would say Tiger…but first guess was Giraffe but then realised no one would shoot them for game. Hmm…if I watched Madagascar…Out of Africa…zebra, hippo, Giraffe, Lion and am clueless….

Thank you for guessing anyway đ
It is the African Leopard! They are called the Big Five, as they are the hardest to hunt, and most likely to kill you, tho the Buffalo is actually the most dangerous!
Tigers do not occur naturally here, but lots of lions, oh and cheetahs. đ

Yes, I think so too. Smaller than pigeons, and they have a lovely cooing sound. đ

Well, I peeked and found African Leopard. Don’t think of leopards and Africa in one thought. I don’t like thinking about them in any thoughts. đŚ

But yes, you are right. Most people don’t get all five.

Yes you’re right! đ Most people think you should have Giraffe, as it’s big. But the Big Five represent the most dangerous game, and of the five, the Buffalo actually kills more people. đ

They are totally underestimated! But actually the Cape Buffalo is the most dangerous of the Big Five. đ
