I spotted this strange thing in the grass, while sipping champagne under the oaks last summer (a few months ago.) No, I wasn’t drunk!
What is it? Hmmm, any ideas yet?
Oh there I see!
A little Sparky the squirrel foraging around in the grass for goodies; maybe acorns?
There are certainly enough oaks around. Look at the size of this trunk!
Did you guess the answer before it was revealed?
Yes, i guess it right! 🙂
They look just like the ones here in Illinois… and so do the oak trunks! Are you sure you don’t live in Illinois?

At first, ha ha I though it was a cactus, but it did look a bit furry, anyway why would one cactus be growing on the grass. So you nearly got me 🙂

That’s quite a catch you got with your camera, really quick response to capture it, I would have been so curious that I would’ve scratched my head wondering what that was. 🙂

haha I had my camera out taking photos of champagne bubbles! So I was just lucky. 🙂

I knew it right away. There are so many to see here.

I didn’t fool many at all! 🙂 Seems squirrels, from all angles, are too common. 🙂

I’m not surprised they have difficulty – I couldn’t say “squirrel” in American either! 🙂

I got it from the second picture. In the first one, I thought Shortly (my cactus plant) had escaped and was making a bid for freedom.

haha I was hoping to fool a few of you into thinking it was a cactus or catkin type thing. That would be some neat trick of Shortly your cactus! 🙂

I think as the owner of a rodent-obsessed dog, I would recognize any portion of a squirrel from hundreds of feet away.

Super power – Able to recognise a squirrel’s butt at 20 paces! 🙂 I like it! 🙂

Same goes for rabbits – though they are far better at hiding!

Amazing Super Powers! 🙂
And I can spot a dog a million miles away – thanks to LM! 🙂

My ears are finely attuned to the sound of dog tags jingling, thanks to Choppy’s sometimes less-than-awesome reaction to other dogs.

Ah – actually I cheat and just watch LM react! She sees and hears anything dog-like long before I do! 🙂

Choppy and I often have similar reaction times to the dog tags. She’s not exactly the fastest on these things!

There you are lucky! 🙂 LM is soooo fast – and reactive.

“Fast” is an adjective rarely used in the same sentence as “Choppy”.

I was hoping maybe some Brits might think the first photo was a kind of catkin! 🙂

I did guess it! My family has a tradition of assigning animals to everyone, as a totem of sorts. Mine is a squirrel because I liked to talk so much when I was younger. Yeah, giant tubby me, a squirrel, lol.

Well done! 🙂 And I can think of worse animals to be likened to than a squirrel 🙂
I’d like to be a Siberian Tiger … Well I can dream! 🙂
