This is what happens after our evening dog walk, when you roll in dead bird!
Even if it is winter.
And worse than that . . . Suppertime!
post script: Don’t worry, straight after this photo LM came inside for her supper.
But really, do you know just how bad putrefied dead bird smells?
Oh, LM, why oh why! Dead animals are the worst. I don’t know why all of you seem to love them so much.

Ah – just living up to her name I guess! π

YAY!!!! Dead bird rolling is the BEST! I do it every chance I can, and it does stink soooooo bad. Mom gets pretty upset with me, especially when I’ve just had a bath π¦

Oh no! My staffy used to roll in what I think must’ve been fox poo, out in the horse paddocks. She’d only ever get a tiny smear on her, but it stunk to high heaven. The smell was so potent even bathing her didn’t quite get rid of it. She was always SOOOO happy with herself about it. Me, not so much…

haha This is it exactly! π
But someone’s dog rolled in Skunk – which I think must be the worst of all! π

Oh no. That’s not something I’ve ever smelt but I can imagine how horrible it must be! I think as far as the dogs are concerned, the stinkier the better, isn’t it?

Well, once I heard about the skunk, I stopped complaining about dead bird! π
And yes for sure – as far as the dog is concerned, the stinkier the better. π

One organism’s smell is another’s heaven or hell… and who are we to judge? Hehe! π
On a more somber note… the day before yesterday… my sister-in-law’s dog (while in her backyard) got stung by (what they say was) a swarm of bees coming up out of the sandy ground. But bees don’t generally burrow in the ground here; wasps do. Probably yellow jackets. The poor dog died. π¦

Aw so sorry to hear about your sister-in-law’s dog, that is horrible. One of my neighbours lost their dog to a swarm of bees, but only because stupid teenagers disturbed their nest in a tree and aggravated them to swarm. The poor dog didn’t manage to escape to the house like it’s brother did, and died from the stings. They were little black Scottie dogs.
And everyone walked past that bee hive in the tree day after day, with no-one getting stung!

What is it with dogs and anything that stinks? There can be a dead bug or bird poop and my girls will find and roll in it.

They, and their doggie friends, find it irresistible. It doesn’t bother them that it is a horrible smell, just that it is powerful, and “Look at me!” π
Fortunately my old boy SL couldn’t roll in stuff even if he wanted to, so I only have LM to deal with! π

I know. They know they are going to get a bath but they insist on doing it anyway.

AH, well poor LM is too daft to realise I Will wash it all off! π – But you are right, she’d do it anyway! π

Ziggy wanted to let you all know, that it’s not necessarily a breed thing (He’s a Border Collie Mix)…He (Thank God) tends to ignore dead birds….But worse than the stench of rotting birds,( I can assure you) is the horrid, eye watering, very difficult to remove scent of a certain little black and white critter that Ziggy thought might just be a bit like a rabbit or squirrel (fun to chase). OMG! I hope (after having 3 tomato juice baths, then another with a heavily scented shampoo) he has learned his lesson!!! (No More Skunks!)

I’m going to stop complaining about the dead bird now … Skunk!! Agh! π
Actually out of the 6 dogs I’ve had, all mix breeds, only 2 have consistently rolled in very smelly things. I know why they do it, but still wish they didn’t! π

Fortunately Ziggy is not a “roller”. He does however enjoy chasing things and has recently added a new hobby: fly catching, which today became bee catching. We think the bee catching was a passing fancy though considering the “yelp” he let out when the bee caught him instead! Poor baby..and they say curiosity killed the cat? (He is fine, Thank God!)

Ah – you have to watch the ‘bee’ catching! Glad he was OK π

Just look at that face! Yes. I know how putrid a rotting dead bird smells. I’m not sure anything is worse. It took me and a young man who helps out at my place and a pair of pliers to get a rotting bird wing out of wee Fergus’ jaws of steel. I was working furiously not to gag.

Agh! I had a Border Collie that rolled in dead birds, etc., what a nuisance and smell, plus all the work to get her cleaned up.
However, dogs are worth every bit of grief they give us with their dog habits. π their good habits far outweigh their bad habits.

Yes, dogs are worth all the effort, just they do pick their moments . . . when you are most tired and it is cold!
Still, LM is lovely and soft today – getting lots of cuddles! π

It’s a breed thing if the Border Collie was on a farm where the parents of the puppy didn’t work very often, the male Border Collie that I have now, Dancer, oh, I’ll go and get a pic of him — way too cute!, anyway, he comes from working stock from Scotland and he has never done any rolling.
Here is the pic of Dancer as a pup:

OMG he is adorable! Lovely photo also!
I don’t know the origins of my boys, as I adopted them. But, Breck came from a rural, farming town and may have had a bit of herding in him. He looks a bit more pure bred than Oreo. However, both love a good roll π£

O M G! That had to be gross!
My boys only like rolling in other animal’s poop. Which is bad enough. Nothing like having to schedule a bath into a busy schedule. Let alone 2 baths, as I think my boys compete as to who can get more poop on their backs. πππ²π£
