Backlit by bright sunlight, these funny looking green apricot things are, in fact, loquats.
These are what Sparky the squirrel was checking out the other week.
Sorry, Sparky, these are still not quite ripe enough to eat just yet. They will be orange when ready.
In the first photo, I like how the sunlight outlined the fruit, as I took the shot by craning my neck backwards while looking straight up into the tree.
post script: Do you remember my Mystery Post from May? You can see what the loquats looked like back then; weird looking brown things with white blossom!
The light really brings out the leaf texture 🙂

I, too, like the first one. We have a loquat tree in our backyard. Birds love, love it. 🙂

These are all great, but I like the second photo best! And, I believe loquats grow in some parts of the US, but evidently not in the kind of quantities that get shipped all over. I’d love to try one.

I think they need lots of sun and no frost 🙂 Maybe if you travel in the USA you might find one to try 🙂

I’m thinking Southern California, Arizona, Florida….or, HEY!, Hawaii! I need a vacation…

I’ve now gone researching loquats and learning more about them than I ever thought I would know!

I’ve written quite a few posts on them, but whenever I add links no-one seems interested . . . But there’s always google, as you know 🙂
Now you probably know way more than me! I just photograph them. 😀

I’m not sure I got that much knowledge from the posts and Wikipedia – but I kind of want to try one now. I think it’s probably something I won’t get to indulge until vacation, though there is a nearby supermarket that has lots of interesting foods I’ve never heard of. Perhaps they’ll have some one day!

I think they are grown in a small area of USA, but not enough for ‘export’. I remember having the occasional pomegranate as a kid – such an exotic fruit to buy in England! 🙂

I love that even today there are fruits that are still difficult to get in various areas of the world or uncommon. I remember seeing persimmons all over in China – I knew what they were, but I never thought about eating them.

I love loquats and you are lucky to have a tree. The fruits are great for throat and you can preserve them by canning them. I thought more commonly found in China, Japan and am pleasantly surprised it is in SA in your garden! Move over Sparky….nom nom😄

haha I’d send you some if I could! They’d probably be ripe by the time you got them! 🙂

That’s cut that Sparky likes to eat the ripe fruit. 🙂

I can’t wait – he’ll be the first thing I see when I open my curtains in the morning – running along the fence at break of day to get his breakfast loquat! 🙂

Little secret – Me neither! 🙂 They just don’t appeal to me, but I don’t like apricots either. So I leave them all for Sparky 🙂
