Backlit by bright sunlight, these funny looking green apricot things are, in fact, loquats.

In the first photo, I like how the sunlight outlined the fruit, as I took the shot by craning my neck backwards while looking straight up into the tree.

    These are all great, but I like the second photo best! And, I believe loquats grow in some parts of the US, but evidently not in the kind of quantities that get shipped all over. I’d love to try one.

      I’ve written quite a few posts on them, but whenever I add links no-one seems interested . . . But there’s always google, as you know 🙂
      Now you probably know way more than me! I just photograph them. 😀

        I’m not sure I got that much knowledge from the posts and Wikipedia – but I kind of want to try one now. I think it’s probably something I won’t get to indulge until vacation, though there is a nearby supermarket that has lots of interesting foods I’ve never heard of. Perhaps they’ll have some one day!

        I think they are grown in a small area of USA, but not enough for ‘export’. I remember having the occasional pomegranate as a kid – such an exotic fruit to buy in England! 🙂

        I love that even today there are fruits that are still difficult to get in various areas of the world or uncommon. I remember seeing persimmons all over in China – I knew what they were, but I never thought about eating them.

    I love loquats and you are lucky to have a tree. The fruits are great for throat and you can preserve them by canning them. I thought more commonly found in China, Japan and am pleasantly surprised it is in SA in your garden! Move over Sparky….nom nom😄

      I can’t wait – he’ll be the first thing I see when I open my curtains in the morning – running along the fence at break of day to get his breakfast loquat! 🙂
