Hang in There, Baby!

This is Mr Spaghetti Legs’ plant; a little Erica Quadrangularis my husband bought me when my old boy died. (I mentioned this briefly in Crunchy.)

It is still trying to get established and I have to water it a little every few days to keep it growing. I only have to be late one time and it will die! Hot summer days!

Happily, there is new growth, just at the ends of the fronds, but I have to watch this little plant very carefully and make sure the roots do not dry out.

You can see from this aerial shot that it is very small still. (That is grass on the left.) It will have tiny white flowers on it when it blooms, as you can see from below, when I was given it.

This little Erica is indigenous and therefore suited to our climate. All I have to do is keep it alive till the winter rains and it will do the rest.

After all, my Red Devil leucodendron is now half as big again as last year; see Fynbos.

 

post script: We had good rains on Friday! Yay! It didn’t fall in the catchment areas, so won’t have filled up the dams, but our lawns, and this little Erica, were very very grateful!

      haha No worries!
      Reminded me of when my daughter had a UK student teaching them hockey at school, and he kept saying, “I’ i’.” No one knew what he meant till they realised he was saying “Hit It” – Hit the ball! 😀

    With you tender loving care……I’m sure it will grow and bloom again. We planted a tree over our parrot as a remembrance, that was fine, until Steve it it with the ride on mover…..and the rest is history 🙂

    Oh it’s really pretty 🙂 love the remembrance idea too…I got a white passion flower for my old cat. Wrong sort of soil here for heathers..might try them again this year in a raised bed. Great post :)x

      Thank you very much 🙂 By trial and very much error, I find what will grow in my garden, with my poor gardening skills. 🙂

      Yes, I am hoping so – but this plant did not come from a nursery, but a Woolworths shop! So not quite as hardy as could be hoped for, but so far, it’s still here! 🙂

        Holy crap! Woolworth’s are still around? Maybe not the same thing as here…. They were like Sears, JCPenney, or a large department store. They left my area when I was about 5.
        Ya never know… Plants can surprise ya!

        The SA Woolworths, for some unknown reason, is like the UK Marks and Spencers. The UK Woolworths (sadly gone after economic crash) was more like your JCPenny I guess.
        I do hope my little plant can survive – it has the tiniest stem. Still, hanging in there so far! 🙂
