Springing up like new again, just in time for autumn, is this lovely flower, Nerine Bowdenii. Hooray!
It appears so suddenly, that it takes you by surprise: one day nothing, the next day there it is!
I had actually walked right past it a few times, carrying heavy watering cans to save my precious plants, when my husband pointed it out to me!
Talk about being unobservant!
Still, it’s great to know that there’s something around here growing well despite the drought.

post script: This lovely flower has appeared before in Nikon-ography #8.

It looks to be doing pretty well! I like the color too.

We have a similar version which comes in the autumn, such a delicate pink, we only have a couple, would love to see them in a mass. Lovely photos of them ๐

Thank you . ๐ These flowers seem to be from only 2 surviving bulbs, which must be decades old – I didn’t plant them!

Thank you. I think it is a kind of lily, and a similar one in USA is called the “surprise lily” – because it suddenly pops up like this one. ๐

that’s such a beautiful flower. I have some of these on my field in Greece, but they come out only in October

Yes, October in Greece is Autumn and that’s where we are heading now, in our upside down Cape Town. ๐

Beautiful photos and I love the color of the flower. For the first time today I noticed the lilies are sprouting up in the yard and it appears even the flowers are declaring an early spring.

We have a flower that’s similar.. we call them ‘surprise lilies’ as they well, surprise you! Same way, no leaves until the opposite season.
These are cousins of that red flower I had in my haiku a few days back.

Is that the one I thought was a hibiscus? – Double checks. Yep and it still looks like one. ๐
I’m just overjoyed to see anything as pretty as this Nerine just popping up in my garden with no faff. ๐
