I Love You!

Chocolate Egg

Cadbury creme eggs were always a favourite at Easter time and I ate more than my fair share of them growing up in the UK. Of course, they are much smaller now than they used to be and, in my opinion, not quite as yummy.

You used to be able to buy these here in SA, many years ago. Then they disappeared for decades. Amazingly, last week I found one small box of them just sitting there in a local store. I haven’t been back since, so have no idea if there are any left. And I only bought three!

However, my favourite cream eggs ever, I used to buy at a Transport Cafe, when I was a kid living in the north of England. They were half a chocolate egg with the most delicious white cream inside. They stopped making them while I was still a kid, which was such a pity, as they were affordable to us. But I still remember them fondly.

Do you have a favourite chocolate egg?

We bought a dozen of these Cadburys a couple weeks ago because they don’t last long in the stores around here. When they get them that’s all they’re gonna get so there’s no time to waste. Our faves. That being said after reading this I now have to resist the urge to raid our stash…at least until dessert time. (We’ll see how that goes…!)

I wish I’d bought a dozen now, because there aren’t any left.
It’s true though, it’s very hard to resist just sitting down and eating them all! πŸ™‚

I don’t remember ever eating a chocolate egg. You’ve made me curious about it. Maybe I’ll try one this year. πŸ™‚

You don’t have chocolate Easter eggs way up there? Poor you! πŸ™‚
I know they are expensive per amount of actual chocolate, but they do taste yummy. πŸ™‚
Let me know if you do try one! πŸ™‚

We don’t really get Halloween candy here, so I can’t compare, but there’s just something about chocolate when it’s in an Easter egg that is so yummy! Maybe because it is thinner? πŸ™‚

I remember candy tasting better when I was younger too. Then they started using lower quality ingredients and putting palm oil in all of it so now I can’t enjoy most of it. I used to love the cream eggs but it’s been years since I could eat one. Happy you were able to find some to enjoy πŸ™‚

Chocolate tastes weird here in SA anyway – I think they have to do something to it so they don’t have puddles of melted choc on the shelves! (It’s hot for at least 8 months of the year).
I really don’t need the extra ’empty’ calories, but what the hey – I’ve waited a long long time for these Easter eggs! πŸ™‚
And yes to the palm oil. It is in Everything these days!

I like the hollow eggs and bunnies, but my favorite are the malted milk chocolate “birds eggs” with the hard shell!

You are right about the diminished size, and they are not as I remember them either. With the caramel, mint, mallow, jelly, bubbles, and even marmite (!) varieties, they are something I can easily cope with as being on the banned list from SW.
If I had to choose a favourite though, it would be the marsh mallow ones. Ar least they don’t ooze all over my chin. πŸ™‚

Oh I haven’t seen all those (awful) varieties! Sometimes living apart from the rest of the world has its advantages! πŸ™‚
I knew people who would buy a whole box of 60 marshmallow eggs! I guess they weren’t on a diet!
And yes, I know I shouldn’t eat these creme eggs either, but I’d rather eat one instead of a meal! πŸ™‚
      (I’ve waited years, after all!)
