Yes, it is officially the Winter Solstice down here in Cape Town. This is our shortest day with the longest night.
Apart from it being a little chilly now and then, when a cold front all the way from the Antarctic sweeps over us, you wouldn’t know it was winter just by looking outside.
It still looks sunnier here than most summer days in the northern hemisphere, where, yes, you have your Summer Solstice right now; longest day and shortest night.
All I could wish for really, is some rain!
I love the fact that finally our days are going in the other direction… this getting up when it is pitch dark annoys me 😀

I don’t mind it – because at least in winter the annoyingly loud Olive Thrush usually hasn’t started singing and woken me up long before need be!

It’s the longest day here, and apparently likely to be the hottest for 170 years.
Sending you surplus sunshine!

Absolutely gorgeous photos. Breathtaking details. Wish I could take photos like these… I can’t even get the correct heads and bodies in the same frame!

The trick to taking good photos is . . . to take the sky or plants! That way, you can’t tell What you’ve cut out of the frame! 😀

five days into a heatwave here in the UK, but soon to end (thank heavens), then back to a normal dreary summer.

hahaha There’s just no satisfying you Brits! (And I should know – I am one!) 😀
Is it as hot as ’76?

It was as hot as ’76 in some parts today, but this is a heatwave not a drought. In my real life I actually manage dry weather communications and we are only likely to have real problems next year if we have a second dry winter. ’76 happened on the back of two dry winters and a hot summer.

oic I do remember driving across the Pennines back then and seeing the dried up dams.
The whole world is definitely getting hotter; we had 40C in March 2015. Way too hot!!

I seriously wish I could erect a sign just West of me to read: “Storms, please detour Southeast about 8,500 miles”
It was weird to have daylight until 945 at night. I felt old going to bed before dark!

haha If only the wind could read! 🙂
Even in summer the sun sets here around 8 to 8.30pm, but now in winter it’s about 6 to 6.30pm, so the only time I go to bed before dark is if I’m sick! 🙂
Enjoy your long summer evenings. 🙂
