Radiant
A typical winter’s evening
Sun sinking to the horizon
Blasts out one last burst of light
Golden leaves irradiated as a backdrop
Highlight the reddest of red Poinsettia
Christmas Rose mid-winter bloom
Splendid splash of scarlet
In the coldest months
Alleviates the dull green hues
Of a Cape Town garden

Nice post and I never knew poinsettias can grow up to so tall. Ours are sold in pots for Christmas and dies after that. Or those that manage to transplant it to the garden gets only green leaves as it loses the red top. I think it is caused by our hot humid weather. ☺

Thank you. 🙂
Yes, this is how I knew Christmas Roses in UK – a plant in a pot that died!
Mine is about 15 feet high 🙂

Is the poinsettia native to your area? I think it also grows in Mexico. It is so big and beautiful.

I don’t think it is native, but it does grow well here. 🙂

Are the poinsettias typically less bushy or is this just these examples. I used to have quite a few all year round as house plants and they did keep trying to be stems with leaves on the top.

This plant is 15 feet tall, and yes, it does look rather straggly in its winter bloom. It is much bushier and greener in summer. 🙂

Yes! Took me a long time to get used to seeing this massive ‘tree’ outside! My Mum always had a small potted Christmas Rose. 🙂
Thank you very much 🙂

I have stopped buying them for Christmas, only because they always seem to die, which makes me sad, as they are really quite lovely for the winter 🙂
