Angel Chimes

May these Angel Chimes make Heavenly Music in your ears!

As a kid we always had Angel Chimes on the table at Christmas and New Year. Along with the traditional paper crackers, they made the festive season more – festive!

The heat from the candles makes the angels slowly spin round. It brings a little magic to the evening to hear the angels tinging away as each taps the bells in turn.

Here in South Africa I spent many years looking for my own set of Angel Chimes, till finally one year I did find them, in a large department store. They played their Heavenly Music on my table every Christmas and New Year throughout my own kid’s childhood. Sadly, the Angel Chimes finally succumbed to metal fatigue and died.

Another gap trying to find new chimes. There were none to be found anywhere.

Then a few years ago my daughter happened to be in Scotland and stumbled across a specialty Christmas shop; in summer! Inside she found these Angel Chimes, that had been made in Sweden! She instantly bought them for me.

Now I could celebrate the festive season properly again.

    They are indeed truly traveled! I’ve never seen not heard Angel chimes. But also my family is Hindu and so I’m not aware of most Christian traditions. But they do sound lovely from your description and I’ll keep a eye out for them next Christmas 🙂

    My first time hearing and seeing Angel Chimes! Interesting as I have never seen them used before, not here in Singapore. Nor have I seen these in USA or Hong Kong where I did live before. Interesting to know about how the heat of the candles actually make the angels chimes. Thanks for an interesting read and I am glad you have back with you angel chimes 🙂

      I think Angel Chimes are more common in Europe, particularly Scandinavia. 🙂
      I was sooo happy to have them again. It just isn’t Christmas without them! 😀

      Well, never leave a candle unattended of course. We only have this lit on the table while we eat. Also, LM is not allowed anywhere near our food, so she’s safe too. 🙂

    How lovely, I haven’t seen them for a few years, we had them when my daughter was young and they were the same as yours. I think you are right, we should bring them back 🙂

    We used to have these! I’d totally forgotten. Thanks for the sweet memory.

    We also had one that was made of wood and would rotate nativity characters. Needless to say, it didn’t survive the ordeal.

    These chimes are very common here in Germany and – believe it or not – we had this one when I was small, too. It made a little sound when the brass sticks touched the bells. You can buy a huge variety of these so called X’mas pyramides also from wood which are handmade in the Erz mountains in Eastern Gemany. Have a nice day, regards Mitza

      This was it – I really battled to find any these days. Apparently available in Germany or Sweden still 🙂

    I did have Angel Chimes when I was younger and they were also made in Sweden (where I believe they originated). I hadn’t thought about them in years. Thanks for the memory!

    Hubby gave me something similar , a glass with intricate hearts round it and a spinner with 5 hearts attached. We use it for our candle for the Dads, and just hope they don’t get too dizzy! It really is quite beautiful though.
