Black Eagle

Black Eagle 1

Haiku 94

Heard long before seen

Scanning blue skies for a glimpse

As you scan for food

.

I was out walking in the Green Belt with my daughter one morning, when we heard the unmistakable cry of a large bird of prey.

Craning our necks back we searched the skies, finally catching a brief glimpse of a tiny speck high up in a wisp of cloud.

Black Eagle 2

I took four photos; three of which I found out later were just plain sky!

The fourth is the photo above, enlarged many times to blurriness, but still showing the classic shape and colouring of a Black Eagle.

Magic!

I have a medium size bird of prey living in the state park near my house. Some sort of hawk. I call him George as he circles close to the house, calling to his friends or just sits in the tops of trees. Quite beautiful to watch.

Wow a Black Eagle, that must have been amazing. We saw Sea Eagles on the Isle of Mull last year and that was amazing, love watching birds of prey. Our owl is still hooting, I am going to have buy an owl to keep him company 🙂

That must’ve been quite a thrill to look up and realize you were looking at an eagle! That you were able to capture a photo of this majestic bird amazes me. Just beautiful.

      Thank you so much 🙂
I knew it was a bird of prey and my daughter could make out the white tips on the wings, but I needed to come home and enlarge my photo and then look it up in my Newman’s Bird Book, before I knew it was an eagle! haha 😀
