Red Sky at Night

Red Sunset 2

Sunsets are very brief here in Cape Town. When I notice the light outside is slightly different at night, I grab my camera and try to catch a few shots of the sunset before the colour’s gone.

Moments after I took these photos the reds faded, leaving the dark blues and purples of the approaching night.

post script: Many of you will know the expression, “Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight. Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning.” Alternatively, it can be sailors instead of shepherds.

You can read more about this prediction, and whether there is any truth in it, here.Β

Nice capture. Interesting to know your sunsets in CT are short. To share, in lil red dot when I see red skies at night, it means it is a rainy day the next morning. True enough it rains. πŸ˜€

      Interesting. πŸ™‚
It all depends on which direction your weather comes from and if there is a clear path from the setting sun to the clouds, to create the colours. πŸ™‚
When we have berg winds – hot winds – then it usually rains the next day. πŸ™‚

So glad you were able to get these shots Sci…..what a beautiful sight. I grew up with the sailor’s version of “Red sky at night…..”. It seems to be an accurate weather forecast….at least as accurate as our weather forecasters with all their modern equipment! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hope you get to see more of these fantastic sunsets. Love your Haiku!!

      Thank you very much πŸ˜€
Actually, the version I knew – which was probably something I mixed up myself – was Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight; red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning! πŸ™‚
It just made sense to me that shepherds were awake at night watching their flock! πŸ˜€

We should get some rain on Friday, so maybe some clouds before that. πŸ™‚

    Very pretty!
I feel my area gets the best color for sunrise/sets in the winter, when the earth is tilted just right. Clearly, it’s tilted just right for you in the Southern hemisphere 😊

      Thank you πŸ™‚
haha For us, we need a few clouds for the setting sun to reflect on, so it doesn’t happen too often. πŸ™‚
