Let There be Cake!

Cake 1 – Apple Crumble

What could be nicer

Than sitting under the trees

With a piece of cake?

You may have been wondering what I have been up to during my absence.

Cake 2 – Cheesecake

Let’s just say that there were many morning and afternoon teas, sitting outside under the shade of trees, and that much cake was involved.

Cake 3 – Malva Pudding

Although I didn’t eat all of these delicious cakes myself, I certainly tasted them!

post script: These cakes were from Jonkershuis, Groot Constantia.

They are described as follows in their menu, in the order of the photos above;

Apple Crumble, with toffee apple sauce and vanilla pod ice cream

The Jonkershuis Cheesecake,Β oven baked with lemon and cardamom curd

Traditional Malva Pudding, with caramel sauce, vanilla pod ice cream and fudge bits

        I have never understood the “social etiquette” that limits cake to afternoons and evenings. I have also never understood why people are surprised when I “spike” my morning coffee! Cake, and other taste bud stimulants, should be had whenever the desire arises … and not left to some silly etiquette! I can now imagine black forest cake for breakfast, with a coffee flavoured rum on the side! πŸ™‚

    I have been known to bypass Cheerios for breakfast and have lemon meringue pie, or chocolate cream pie, or cake, perhaps a cream puff….no law against it, right? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ These desserts look fantastic. Let there always be cake!! πŸ€—

      The way I figure it – I’m gonna eat that cake regardless, so it may as well be Instead of breakfast rather than as Well as!

      When my kids were young we watched the movie “Practical Magic”. Two young girls go to live with their aunts, who tell them, “In this house we have chocolate cake for breakfast!”
      I often make chocolate brownies, so we use this saying quite a lot! πŸ˜€
