Snowflake

Snowflake – Dandelion

Haiku 173

Closest I can get

To a beautiful snowflake

Grand Dandelion

.

I found this giant weed growing in my garden by the stoep. It must be some sort of dandelion, but it’s really massive; a Grand Daddy Dandelion!

Dandelion

The close up of its seed head looks a little like a snowflake.

At least it does, if you live in a place that never snows!

I’m glad you call them flowers, rather than weeds. If everyone thought of them that way, lawns full of them would be thought beautiful, not ugly..It’s like the old saying, “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” — it’s in the eyes of the beholder.

Dandelions grow here like an epidemic! I grab my trusty little tool and pop them out as soon as I see them. Like you, I don’t want them to spread even more.

Nevertheless, it was really interesting to see one up close and personal. I missed the beauty of a dandelion by not stopping to smell the roses!

I really don’t mind the odd one – and used to make sure I had some on hand for my daughter’s pet rabbits – but I don’t want a whole field of them! πŸ˜€

We have snow during the summer too in the shape of dandelions.
I’ve got a habit of waging war against them but only because I’m trying to keep my garden the same as everyone else.

Yet I learned to like dandelions through survival school and the teachings of my elders in country folk. They are so useful as a food and in herbal medicine.
