Single golden leaf
Floating in the water bowl
I guess it’s Autumn
.
One swallow does not a summer make, nor a single snowflake winter, but in Cape Town, a solitary fallen leaf does make Autumn!
Autumn and Spring are so brief here that you have to look at the calendar, rather than the weather or flora, to know what season it is.
Although there is a chill in the air, during the day it is warm and pleasant, usually around 20C, (26C on Wednesday!); what I would call a nice Summer’s day in England!
Right now in my garden, I still have roses in bloom, as well as the honeysuckle, plumbago, hibiscus and frangipani. The camellia is absolutely covered in buds ready to unfurl into massive pink flowers.
So yes, one golden leaf fallen from the grape vine is as good an indication as any that it is actually Autumn.
After all, the 20th of next month is the winter solstice!
Loved the photo and smiled at the poem as these days itβs not only difficult to tell what season weβre in or what day of the week it is without looking at the calendar.π

Having a little trouble wrapping my head around that. We are still trying to shake off winters chill and find something called summer.

I still find it hard to get my head around the hemisphere differences of season. Funnily enough it is due to be 26 degrees in Bristol on wednesday too.

How lovely for you π
I think Bristol is quite a bit warmer than Yorkshire – where I lived as a kid. Enjoy the sunshine. π

That looks like a Maple leaf. It brings back memories of fall, and raking, and raking, and the wind blowing more leaves out of the trees, and raking some more! Arrrrgh! I’m happy for you!

It does look similar to a Maple leaf – but we don’t get those lovely red colours you get.
Also, very few of my trees actually lose their leaves, so the raking up isn’t too bad. π

Ah, summer and the solstice!
Mind you, this year, maybe I should write ARGH Summer!!!
We’re really not looking forward to it this year as the Covidiot muppets will be flocking into our little town thanks to our glorious fool of a leader PM Johnson.
(I so miss boat living!)
Still at least our roses are shaping up well and the buds are just beginning to open.
Photo’s will soon appear on the bosses blog.

Gee – far too soon to be letting people out en masse in the UK!
Enjoy spring time up there. π

Yippee! It did work, a snap of our first rose coming out.
SWMBO calls it a “yellow peace rose”.
Funny names these things have.
To me it’s just lovely to look at.

We get very few golden leaves, as most of our plants are Evergreen – or just carry on blooming like the honeysuckle! π

Beautiful! As we are trying to enter in our Summer, we are definitely stuck in early spring weather with an occasional whiff of winter. We are expecting a high of 10 with 25 mm of rain. Sigh. 20 c would be nice.

Thank you π
And Good Grief!! That is jolly cold – tho I really wouldn’t mind the rain – I think we’ve had about that amount so far this entire Year! π
Like we keep saying – we should swap places for a few weeks’ holiday! You can warm up and I can cool down and enjoy the rain. π

Terrific photo and Haiku. We’re struggling here to actually get into spring and stay there. We get a few warm days and then it’s cold again!! But we may be on a roll now! π€
