Cape Black Fig 2

A friend gave us a few small fig plants a year ago and already one of them, a Cape Black, has produced two figs.

Yes, tiny as they are, these are actual figs! The plant itself is about a foot tall and I wasn’t expecting any fruit for a good many years.

What a lovely surprise from Nature.

post script: The title is a reference to Rhett Butler’s last line to Scarlett O’Hara in the 1939 movie, Gone With The Wind; “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a dam!”

Thank you – Yes I was very surprised to see any figs so early on, but I think it’ll still be a while before I have enough for jam. πŸ˜€

So nice to see fruits of your labor – I use this saying, “I don’t give a flying fig” when I am cross LOL! Amazing that the tiny fig plant can start fruiting. Enjoy the figs soon…I cannot wait to

When living in Houston we had a huge fig tree in our back yard. Every year my wife would put up several jars of mock strawberry and raspberry jam. She used jello for flavoring. With the fig seeds, this tasted a lot like the real thing.

Nice twist on that famous line from Gone With The Wind. Clever Haiku.

Tiny, but oh such a healthy looking plant. Isn’t it nice to get a PLEASANT surprise from Mother Nature for a change?!
