No Laughing Matter

Laughing Doves 1

Haiku 226

Not much to laugh at

Family, friends, birthdays missed

This Corona year

Still, watching these Laughing Doves eat their seed cheers me up.

Laughing Doves 2

Laughing Doves are smaller than their cousins, the Cape Turtle Doves, who chase them off their food.

But the biggest bully of all is Sparky the squirrel, who chases everyone away and eats at his leisure.

Now I put seed down in a few places, so if Sparky has chased the doves away from one place, and the Turtle Doves have chased the Laughing Doves away from the next, there is still a place for the Laughing Doves to eat in peace!

Laughing Doves 3

And for me to find a little peace watching them.

Yes! We all need cheering up at the mo!
Oh yes, Sparky will eat everything – but he can’t be in three places at once, so the birds usually get Some food at least! πŸ˜€

Lovely birds. I was greeted by a robin when I got back from my walk this evening.
When I was in NZ I had a songthrush sitting on the TV aerial next door singing its heart out. I loved it….. even at 3 am!!!

I rarely see a robin here and don’t remember ever seeing a British one – but they look so cute on Christmas cards!! πŸ˜€
Must say, I’m not particularly fond of our Olive Thrush when he sings his heart out before dawn! πŸ˜€

We love watching and listening to the song birds, my favorite being the chatter of the sparrows while Di loves the songs of the thrush.

I’ve never heard of laughing Doves. I love their soft coloring. Did they get their name because their ‘coos’ sound like laughter? Good for you that you go to so much trouble to see that everyone is fed!

I agree, not a whole lot to laugh at these days, but we have to keep trying to find humor any place we can.

I’m not sure why they are called Laughing doves. I don’t hear their call much – only the larger Turtle doves with the usual Coo.
Yes, we just have to look on the bright side and be grateful for small things. πŸ˜€
