Orange

Orange Plane

I thought you might like to see one of our smaller planes here in SA.

I love the bright orange Mango aircraft; offering a similar service to eg Ryan Air or Easy Jet.

I like how the plane complements our orange African sunset.

post script: I took this photo with my camera phone at Cape Town airport last July, as I awaited my evening departure on a much larger BA plane to London.

Check Your Firearm Here

Sign seen at Cape Town airport.

No, seriously.

Like, don’t take your gun on the plane, Dude!

I am just wondering why anyone would think it necessary to take their gun with them to the airport in the first place.

And who owns one anyway?

post script: I’d be interested to know if anyone else has this sign at their airport?

Why I Love Cape Town

Suitcase Seat 1

Suitcase Seat 1

Because the imagination of the people here never ceases to amaze me.

Yes, these chairs are made out of old suitcases.

Where are they?

At Cape Town International Airport: Arrivals.

I don’t know how comfy they’d be to sit on (and yes, I did see people actually using them) but they were certainly fun to look at.

Pretty cool hey!

I captured my daughter’s plane taxiing into its parking bay last year and realised afterwards that the Cape Town International writing, printed on the window, lined up beautifully.

Sometimes you just get the perfect shot.

Though sometimes it may take a 100 clicks!

Talkin’ ‘Bout My Girls

Sea Turtle

Sea Turtle

My younger daughter (carrying her sister’s luggage) shares a special moment with a giant sea turtle (photographic display, not real) at Cape Town International airport.

To fit the turtle in the frame I had to back up right across the corridor. After a moment I noticed a young lady had politely stopped pushing her trolley, to allow me to take the picture. Behind her, and backing up down the passage, were lots of other passengers with their luggage; all stopped for a moment to let me get the shot!

We were all very pleasantly surprised by this act of consideration.

After surviving the chaos that is Heathrow, followed by a twelve hour flight, my older daughter arrived at the airport yesterday morning, still smiling.

Giant Chair

Giant Chair

There used to be a life-sized bronze statue of an African elephant at the airport. It was lovely to take your photo next to it. (I think it is now at the Waterfront?) Now there is this giant chair.

Take a Seat

Take a Seat

The instructions say “Take a Seat” – which I would have loved to, but there are no steps up to it, and I fear my ‘shimmying-up-poles-days’ are over!

My girls are my sunshine on a cloudy day. To listen to a blast from the past try My Girl recorded by the Temptations in 1964.
