There’s nothing an animal likes more than exploring the wilds of Nature.

Even a domesticated animal like Little Monkey. (Yes, she is in the photo above; right in the middle.)

Most people walk down the centre of the path. Not so Little Monkey, who used it merely to cross from one side of exciting wilderness to the other.

While others enjoyed a walk in nature with their dogs, I walked alone (with my friend and her dogs), while LM enthusiastically explored all around her. She was rarely within sight, but always knew exactly where I was. If I felt she’d strayed too far or been gone too long, one whistle brought her straight back to me.

Funny that a dog who doesn’t like taking a bath, has no problem sploshing around in a river!

Here she happily trotted along the river bed, bound on exploring all the new scents and sights. Notice the tree marked X.

While I watched LM busy following scents, what neither of us noticed, however, was the wolf keenly watching her!

While I was preoccupied in capturing this little scene as it played out before me, I was unaware that now I was the one being watched!

    I’ll admit it! You got me!!! lol and it’s not even April Fools anymore ha ha ha I have no excuse, my brother has a husky cross breed which looks very wolf-like. I think it’s time to make a cup of tea and probably have a biscuit to wake up 😉

    Laughed out loud when I got to that irony of a dog who doesn’t like a bath having no issue being in the water on her walk. LM looks like she had a “wild” time indeed…including the “wolf.” 🙂

    !!!!!……!!!!!
    Took me another look…good grief! A very “wolfy” dog! And yes…why will they go in all manner of cold dirty puddles but not a nice warm bath?

        I remember when my son was little, a tiny dog ran out in front of us…he shouted “Ooh look Mummy a pig!” Granted it had a curly tail…LOL 🙂

    I was completely lulled into enjoying the walk with Little Monkey and wondering why dogs have no problem getting wet in the wild and throw such a fit over a bath when I was shocked to see the wolf (so glad it’s a dog!). Enjoyed the fun post!

    And Choppy is another of the reluctant bathers who will happily splash through ponds, creeks, puddles – whatever it is, so long as it is stinky and dirty. Or maybe I’m the one who thinks the bodies of water she chooses belong with those adjectives.

    If it was a wolf or coyote (or similar), due diligence with an off-leash dog is critical as one member of the pack will make itself visible to the off-leash dog, and then fake a problem. As the off-leash dog goes over to investigate, the “predator” will turn and move away with seemingly great effort while the off-leash follows. There will be an ambush just around the corner, and the rest will be history. Our coyotes are well known for those tactics.

      Sheesh these wild canids are really clever! Luckily there are no wild wolves in SA; the closest would be a jackal, but not in suburbia.

        Our coyotes are very comfortable in suburbia… and they really are wily. Many an outdoor cat, or small stray dog, has been lost and never seen again. We also have large aerial predators… so small animals beware! Perhaps you should stay where you are!

        Luckily we don’t have large wild predators living in towns yet. Though a Cape Eagle Owl (very large bird) tried to carry off my neighbour’s chihuahua! Actually swooped down while they were walking along the street. Fortunately the dog was attached to its lead!

      Thank you! 🙂 I was beginning to think I was mean for not adding the postscript about the wolf/dog! 🙂
      He does have a look of wolf about him, but as you point out, rather portly and his legs are too short.

    People don’t realize just how close wild animals are to us. Within city boundaries I have seen coyotes, racoons, skunk, deer, fox, and not just once or twice!

      While this is true, in this instance, it’s just a dog, not a wolf; sorry. 🙂
      I so nearly added a post script saying this, but I thought people would see the difference. Ooops! 🙂

    Eeeeek! Wow that’s a little too close for comfort, IMO! I wonder if Ms. Domesticated Dog even knew Mr. Wild Dog was even there? I’m sure Mr. Wild knew everything that was going down. I’m guessing if things had gone bad, we would be reading about it in tomorrow’s post 🤤

      That’s exactly what I was thinking too – the way the ‘wild’ dog was watching LM, like, “Mmmm, Dinner!”
      But actually, it’s not a wolf; probably a Malamute/Husky cross. It just looked so wolf-like, suddenly appearing like that, with no owner or anything. I couldn’t resist a little game. 😀
