An Advent calendar helps kids count down the days to Christmas, and all those anticipated presents!
We had an old sparkly one, brought out each year of my childhood, and took turns opening the little window to find the picture hidden behind. In later years they came with chocolate behind the windows, but much as I love chocolate, I didn’t care for these calendars.
My sister was delighted when she found the above Advent calendar Christmas card and couldn’t wait to send it to me. I am still enjoying opening the little windows (sharing turns with my daughter) and seeing the tiny pictures.
And here, by special request (Ady), is a photo of my tiny artificial Christmas tree.
My kids have advent calendars each and there’s a small chocolate behind each window so they love it!

Thank you so much for sharing with us Sci! It reminds so much of my childhood memories…I used received an advert calendar with chocolate for a few years when I was a little kid. I always skipped counting down and ate all the chocolates instead lol…naughty kid!!! π

I always enjoyed Christmas lights and trees, us Jews only recently got those blue lights but man! As a kid I was pretty bummed out when my friends made ornaments!
Wine cork baby Jesus…Hmm, I wonder what the weirdest holiday traditional ornament would be?

Ah – you’ll have to google that one! π Did you make a big thing of New Year then?

Not really, once I managed to stay up past 12 the only reason I decided New Year’s was worth staying awake was to watch the ‘Honeymooners’.
Now days I forgo even that and just go to bed like its a normal day.
Do anything special yourself?

Used to go to friends for a braai (barbecue) but I found it really hard to stay awake. Nowadays, maybe watch a movie, and go to bed as per usual. π

Gorgeous share on advent calendar! I learnt a new thing. Your teeny tree may be small but it is truly pretty. I have no tree. I had an artificial 6″ tree with decor somewhere tucked in a box but dunno where. LOL! So much on my end. Just Garfield socks somewhere… π

Ah – Garfield socks will do nicely – maybe with little Garfields peeping out the top π

Cannot believe you could make that out! It is a snowman, and “Baby Jesus” made out of a wine cork by my daughter at school when she was 5. The tree is not complete without these items at the bottom! π

I enlarged to see the decorations π I like tiny round bulbs and candy canes and then I saw these two at bottom, the Baby Jesus looks cute π Nice art by your daughter π

Love your tree! Is it bigger than ours (15 inches including fairy) π
I never had an Advent Calendar but when I was in a supervisory role in an office, I gave one (all different) to each of my team, who compared chocolates! Luckily, none had the same one on the same day!
