Short Back and Sides!

At the end of winter, gardens around the neighbourhood are a-buzz with chain saws, as trees are pruned. Every 5 years or so mine get a ‘Short back and sides’. Though they all look incredibly bald and even dead now, the 1st of September was the first day of Spring here in Cape Town.

In no time at all this tree will burst back into life with full force. Spring!

It’s a magical feeling to see the tree “bursts back into life with full force” and all other flowers start to bloom. You can feel what is called “life”. Beautiful shot Sci! πŸ˜‰

I do believe you as our trees get lobbed off and months later, it requires pruning again. Ooh do you get loads of acorn from this tree? Reminds me of Ice Age’s squirrel always after that acorn! LOL!

No acorns from this particular tree as it is a Silver Oak. not a normal Oak. Tho I do have one of those and yes we get tons of acorns!
And I love Scrat is it? from Ice Age πŸ™‚

I always think trees look a little forlorn in the colder months when they’ve shed their leaves and hold their bald limbs skywards. We used to prune our apple tree every year, and every year it would grow twice as fast! Fabulous apples though!! πŸ™‚

That is one of the things I find really fun – opposite sides of the earth and different seasons, climates etc The sun here is already starting to get too hot – and it’s a long time till summer proper.

I do hope so, the last time I saw leaf fall was few months back and it was natural, yet it was saddening. Though it was just for season change. I am eagerly waiting for you Silver oak to spring back soon πŸ˜€

Always so much to do in the garden right now, but as you say, it is a nice time. – Certainly until the sun becomes too hot for comfort!
