Sunday Musings #82

Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

– Thomas Edison

This amusing quote really appealed to me.

How many times have you heard someone say, “You’re so lucky!” while bemoaning someone else’s success or good fortune? Mostly, that “luck” is simply hard work!

I believe in work before pleasure; partly because that’s how I was raised and partly because it’s just my personality. By working hard you then create your own opportunities; or luck.

But I have to admit, I don’t wear overalls!

Aw. I am always sorry for street people; you never know their life story. Cynically, you tend to think the young ones just want drug money.

      Yes, it’s true 🙂
My brother was always lucky. He’d go out for the bus 10 minutes after it was due, and it would appear. I’d be there for mine 10 minutes early, and it would not come at all!

Yes I did! Over an hour in the winter snows of Northern UK, until my little hands were blue. The moment I went back inside the house to thaw – a bus went past the house!!

I’ve waited nearly an hour for a bus once…until a kindly passing taxi driver told me there were no.buses as the station had flooded!

A lot of today’s kids seem to want everything at once, without having to put in the work first. But yes, you do have to have ‘playtime’ too. 🙂

I agree that it’s hard work that got me where I am now… however I’ve been lucky to know when an opportunity presents itself also.
    You do need both, IMO.
“Luck favors the prepared” is my fav quote!
    Happy Sunday!

Oh I so totally agree, its not luck, its sheer hard work. I get so annoyed when some one says to me, oh your so lucky, no, I work hard for it and therefore reap the benefits to be able to do things I want to 🙂 and no I don’t wear overalls either 🙂 Happy Sunday 🙂

Hmm, I’m very much in the ‘not on this earth to work for the man all my life’ camp, but then have never worked as hard since I quit my job, because I’m now doing something I utterly love. Just need to find a way to earn some money from it now 🙂

This reminds me of the saying, “Find something you love to do and you’ll never work a day in your life!”
Looks like you’re on the right track. 🙂 Good Luck.
